Before the awareness program, many women in our village feared cancer screening. After the training, we now understand the importance of early detection. I became a community ambassador and have helped other women access information and screening services

After my husband passed away, I faced challenges protecting my land rights. Through the support and advocacy initiatives of Rural Smiles Foundation, I learned my rights and gained the confidence to defend them. Today I help other widows understand their rights too.

📜 Our History
A Journey of Grassroots Action and Community Impact

Amplifying Rural Voices. Advancing Rights. Building Resilient Communities.

Rural Smiles Foundation was established to address the growing challenges faced by rural and underserved communities in Uganda, including limited access to healthcare, economic inequality, digital exclusion, and shrinking civic space. From the beginning, the organization has focused on community-driven solutions that empower people to understand and claim their rights while strengthening local systems that support inclusive development. Our early initiatives focused on community health awareness and sexual and reproductive health rights education, including programs supporting refugee youth and rural women. Over time, our work expanded to include civic space protection, digital rights, economic empowerment, and renewable energy solutions that strengthen essential services such as rural health facilities. Today, Rural Smiles Foundation works with communities, civil society networks, and local government institutions across the Bunyoro sub-region to advance health rights, digital freedom, and inclusive participation. Through grassroots engagement, advocacy, and innovative solutions such as civic technology platforms, we continue to support communities in building a more just, resilient, and inclusive future.
